Minnesota's Electric Cooperatives

Minnesota Rural Electric Association (MREA) is the Minnesota statewide association representing 50 not-for-profit, member-owned rural electric cooperatives.

Electric co-ops are community-focused organizations that provide affordable, reliable, and safe electricity. Across the state, we work together to embrace new technologies, design and maintain infrastructure, collaborate with the cooperative network, and keep the grid secure.

MEMBER OWNED

Electric cooperatives belong to the communities they serve. This localized member-ownership structure ensures cooperative decision-making is in the best interest of the community it serves today and into the future.

COMMUNITY-FOCUSED

Minnesota’s electric cooperatives are community-focused organizations. Through an ongoing commitment to charitable giving, cause-related efforts, volunteerism and education, electric cooperatives enhance community quality of life.

NOT FOR PROFIT

Cooperatives serve their communities instead of shareholders. This long-proven business model ensures competitive energy costs, reliability, responsible energy infrastructure investments, and community and economic development.
